The block print on the linen is entirely done by hand, by master artisans. This is a four-hundred-year-old art form that has been passed down generations and takes an incredible amount of precision and practice to get right. The blocks are carved by artisans, the colors are mixed by a master color artist, and it is then printed on by a block printer. The linen is then air dried and then stitched into blankets with a layer of cotton between the block printed cloth.. The running stitches across the body of each quilt are entirely hand-sewn by women artisans—many of whom are the first in their families to earn a livelihood through their craft. This blanket is truly artisanal in nature and takes a few days to get made.
